SAVATIANO
CHARACTERISTICS

Savatiano is a variety of wine which can be easily combined with our favourite dish, whatever the kind of cuisine it belongs to. Its aromas that are of low boldness can accompany many dishes without hardening their flavor. It has got special aromas similar to yellow exotic fruit, like pineapple, mango and banana; whereas, many times has also got the aromas of citrus, freshly cut hay and grass. Savatiano is considered as one of the most popular cultivated varieties in Greek vineyards. It is a very productive and resistant to diseases variety. Both the well balanced taste of alcohol and acidity, as well as its density, make it as one of the best varieties of the Greek wine production. It is mainly popular as the variety for making retsina.

MOSCATO OF ALEXANDRIA
CHARACTERISTICS

Moscato of Alexandria variety is also known as Moscato thick.  It is a variety from which is produced the PDO Moscato Lemnos wine and PDO Lemnos one. The Moscato Lemnos wine has got a sweet flavor with an extended taste of dried nuts and exotic fruit, honey and grapes. While the PDO Lemnos wine is a dry one, with a discrete aroma of roses and yellow unripe fruit; like lemon or grapefruit. Moreover, it has got a very complete and rich taste. Its content in alcohol is of medium grade and of a very high amount of acidity. Its ripeness is achieved within barrel in such a way that it is not oxidized.

RHODITIS
CHARACTERISTICS

Rhoditis is a variety of grapes that is extendedly cultivated in many regions of Greece and in many different styles from white to rose. The white grapes are mainly found in Attica region, but it has also been extended in many different areas. In our country, flourishes the light green kind, since it has got a particular efficiency in vegetation. Rhoditis is a variety of wine that endures in drought and can be cultivated in low mountainous grounds. It is of medium endurance in diseases and the procedure of pruning and the top dressing is not permitted, whereas it must not be left to overmature because it loses the necessary acids. The specific wines have got an ideal balance in alcohol and acidity while Rhoditis is mainly used for the production of retsina wine.

MALAGOUZIA
CHARACTERISTICS

Malagouzia variety is the one that origins from Aitoloakarnania region and specifically from the mountainous Nafpaktia area. It matures in summer and especially in August, while it is a very sensitive variety. It is characterized as one of the promising white wine varieties that offers perfect and unique wines while, it is ideally combined with asyrtiko or sauvignon blanc wine .  Its colour comes from malagouzia grapes and it is of a gentle yellow greenish tone whereas, its smell is a combination of peach, green pepper, flowers and basil. The same variety of grapes can offer wines of different style and taste, dry as well as sweet ones from ripe grape harvest full of vividness and complexity. During the 80’s, Evangelos Gerovassiliou and Roxanne Matsa highly succeeded to protect this variety, which was in danger of extinction. Evangelos Gerovassiliou accomplished the first bottling of Malagouzia wine in Porto Carras estate.

MERLOT
CHARACTERISTICS

The Merlot variety offers soft, tasteful and velvet wines. It belongs to the French variety of Bordeaux. The Merlot grapes have got a red colour and it is a highly sensitive variety in hard winter or spring frosts. The grapes have got a gentle aroma while they contain many sugars. They sustain a long-lasting process of fermentation and for this reason when opened, they offer a perfectly complicated aroma similar to a bouquet of flowers with a special density in taste. In Greece, the Merlot variety is mainly cultivated for the production of upper quality wine.

CABERNET SAUVIGNON
CHARACTERISTICS

The variety Cabernet Sauvignon is a French one and it has got special complicated aromas and a rich long-lasting and intense taste. These characteristics make it distinguishable between other varieties of grapes. The long-lasting process of fermentation that occurs to the Cabernet Sauvignon variety brings out a sophisticated aroma of a bouquet of flowers.
